Banking, tax, and visas
After obtaining your business license, you'll need to open a corporate bank account. Chinese banks in Lincang, such as Bank of China or Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, offer corporate accounts, but foreign-invested companies may face enhanced due diligence. Prepare your business license, seal, legal representative ID, and proof of address. The process can take several days to weeks.
Tax registration is mandatory within 30 days of license issuance. Lincang companies are subject to national taxes: corporate income tax (generally 25%, with reduced rates for small low-profit enterprises), value-added tax (VAT), and other applicable taxes. If you engage in cross-border trade, customs registration is also required. Yunnan has policies to support border trade, but incentives are specific and should be confirmed with the Lincang tax bureau.
For foreign founders and staff, work visas (Z visa) and residence permits are necessary. The process involves obtaining a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and then applying for a residence permit from the exit-entry administration. Lincang may have limited experience with foreign work permits compared to larger cities, so allow extra time and consider professional assistance.
